Ice Ice Lately

by Emily Zoellick on 02/11/2019

Like most of you that are reading this blog post, our Farm has been encased in a heavy dose of ice recently. Happy Jack is simply freezing up there on his perch! He’s still smiling though, so that’s a good sight to see every day when it’s this cold and nasty outside! By the time we’re open for sweet corn, apples, and pumpkins, none of us are even going to remember how miserable this winter has been! (We hope!) Farmer Lloyd says we could use some cold weather without snow. The cold is good! Frost deep in the soil helps invigorate it for the coming season, and we want to be sure our pumpkins get planted in good soil.

When we’re battling frigid temps, blowing snow, and slippery ice, we hunker down and plan even harder for the Fall season. The Farm Girls recently went to the GiftMart in Atlanta and did the buying for our Fall Market. We are certain to have some excellent home décor and seasonal items for you in our Market this year. The Farm Guys in the shop here have been especially busy lately working on some really cool new additions to our Fall attractions. We strive to constantly add to our growing offering of family-friendly activities, and this upcoming season will be no exception.

Is there a fire-truck lover in your family? Young kids and grown up kids alike will get such a kick out of our new interactive fire-truck, complete with lots of lights, sound, animations, and a game! It’s loud! It’s bright! It will drive parents crazy in the best way! We’re planning on debuting this beauty when we open at the end of August…probably during a heat wave! And, if fire-trucks aren’t your “thing,” fear not! We have tricks up our sleeve with trains and tractors too.

Your standby favorites will most certainly be here as well. We also plan on bringing back our popular 5K Family Fun Run. The date for that will be September 8, and we hope to open registration soon. Watch our social medias (Twitter and Facebook) for that, as well as important information on how to register for our annual Apple Day that is coming up in April. We’re booking weddings and corporate events for the 2019 Season. Let us know if that is something you’d be interested in and we can work with you to make your event fun, unique, and special.

Our greenhouses are getting prepped and ready for Spring planting and our garden center in South Barrington is already setting up. Before we know it Spring will be here and Winter will be just a memory. And after that the Summer Farmstand will be open and after that…Well, you know what comes after that, and we can hardly wait. We love all the seasons, but we might also have a favorite.
